A Bradford boiler installer's Google results: 2,164 people viewed his Business Profile from April to September 2026, beside a map scan showing Direct Boilers and Heating first or top three across the core of the area

The owner of a boiler installation company in Bradford summed up local SEO in one line. His customers now find him straight from Google, not through an advert he pays for every time someone clicks. In his own words, they are "customers that are finding me directly from Google search. Not paid ads, but directly through Google search." That is exactly what a Google Business Profile is supposed to do once it is ranking, and the numbers on his own profile back him up.

The question I get asked by owners already paying for leads

Most of the businesses I help are already making decent money from paid advertising. They are not short of leads, they are short of leads that do not cost them a small fortune every single month. So the question I get asked, almost word for word, is this: if you get me ranking on Google, will the calls just start coming in on their own, or am I always going to be paying for every click?

The answer is yes, they do start coming in on their own, as long as the groundwork is done properly. When your Google Business Profile is the one Google trusts enough to show at the top of the map, the person searching rings you straight off that listing. You are not bidding for them, and you are not paying a pound every time a stranger taps your name. They find you, they call you, and it happens whether you are watching or not.

What his Google Business Profile actually brought in

His profile is not a page that sits there looking nice. Between April and September, 2,164 people viewed his profile on Google, and it showed up in Google searches 189 times. Going further back, between December 2025 and April 2026, that same profile logged 25 calls, people who saw him on Google and rang him there and then.

Those are not impressions or clicks. A call from a Business Profile is a person with a broken boiler holding their phone, picking the installer Google put in front of them. That is the kind of lead he used to pay for, now arriving without a penny of ad spend behind it, because he owns the spot.

Where Direct Boilers comes up in Bradford now

None of that happens unless you are actually on the map when it counts. Here is where Direct Boilers and Heating lands across the core of Bradford today.

Map scan for boiler installation across the core of Bradford, 17 September 2026: Direct Boilers and Heating comes up first or in the top three at point after point across the core of their area

Map scan, 17 September 2026, "boiler installation bradford", 13 by 13 grid. Each green point is a spot where they come up in Google's top three, and across the core of their area they are first.

Every green point on that grid is a place where someone searching for a boiler installer sees Direct Boilers in the top three, and across the heart of their patch they are the first name on the list. That is why the calls land. Google is not sending those people to a website to read about him first. It is handing them a business, on a map, with the reviews and the phone number right there.

Why Google hands the job to the business on the map

Think about what someone actually does when their boiler packs in on a cold morning. They do not open their laptop and read through five websites. They grab their phone, type "boiler installation bradford", and tap one of the three businesses Google shows them on the map. Whoever sits in those three spots gets the call, and everyone below it may as well not exist.

That is the whole game with local search. Google is trying to answer that person with the business that fits them best and sits nearest to them. When your profile spells out exactly what you do, lists every service, carries real reviews and matches the website behind it, you are the obvious answer, and Google keeps putting you in front of people. A big firm many miles away loses that moment to the local installer sat in the top three, because the person searching wanted someone local and ready that minute.

How to tell if your Google Business Profile is bringing you calls

So how do you know whether your own profile is pulling its weight, or just sitting there. You do not need a single tool to check. Open your profile, go to the performance section, and look at the last few months: how many people actually viewed it, how many calls came off it, and how many times it showed up in searches. If those numbers are low or flat, you are not in the three spots that matter.

Then look at the profile itself. Is your main category the exact thing people search for, or something close enough. Are all of your services on there, or just a couple. Do your reviews show, and are they still coming in. And when you search your own main service in your town, on a phone that is not logged in as you, do you come up on that little map, or is it three competitors looking back at you. Getting every one of those right is exactly what we do when we take over a Google Business Profile, and it is what moves a business into those three spots. You can see what it has done for others on our results page. If it is competitors looking back at you, that is where the calls are going, and you will never see those enquiries, because they never reach your website or your inbox.

How we measured this

The call and view figures here come straight off Direct Boilers' own Google Business Profile, read exactly as Google reports them, with nothing rounded or added. The map is a scan run on the 17th of September 2026 for "boiler installation bradford", across a grid of 169 points covering their area, where a green point means they came up in the top three at that spot.

If you are paying for every lead, Google is already sending calls like these to whoever sits in the top three.
