AI search visibility for local businesses
AI search visibility is how often ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews and Google’s AI Mode name your business when a customer asks them for the best firm near them. For local businesses it’s built on the same foundation that ranks you on Google Maps, so we build it as a layer on top of your Google ranking, never instead of it.
When we checked, Google’s AI Overview named INRO London first for “best watch strap maker in london”, named Direct Boilers and Heating among the top-rated installers for “who’s the best boiler installers in bradford?”, and Google’s AI Mode listed Autograph Limousines for “party bus hire newcastle”, rated 4.9 from 55 reviews. All three are businesses whose Google ranking we built.
The scan checks your main job across the Google map around your business, then your Business Profile and your website, and shows you where you stand within 30 to 60 minutes.

Three businesses Google’s AI named when we checked
Each of these is a screenshot taken straight from Google, and each one sits on work you can trace.
INRO London, named first for watch straps in London
When we asked Google for the “best watch strap maker in london”, its AI Overview opened with a shortlist of makers, and the first name on it was INRO London, a bespoke watch strap maker in Marylebone. Underneath, it gave INRO a line of its own, on straps handcrafted in London to fit specific watches and “highly regarded by collectors”.

Behind that answer is the work the AI reads. We rebuilt INRO’s Business Profile around bespoke watch straps, with the Watch shop category and every service written as a bespoke strap for a named watch brand, and the homepage and a new Cartier page were built around the same words. We listed INRO on Apple Maps, Bing, Foursquare and the big directories, all from the profile so the details matched to the letter, then by hand on nine niche and London directories, from Strapaholics to Horology The Index. On 12 June 2026, INRO was in the top 3 for bespoke Cartier watch straps across 71.01% of the map.
Direct Boilers and Heating, named among Bradford’s top-rated boiler installers
When we asked Google “who’s the best boiler installers in bradford?”, its AI Overview named Direct Boilers and Heating among the top-rated installers, with a line of its own on affordable, energy-efficient combi boiler upgrades and emergency repairs. The map tells the same story: on 17 September 2026 Direct Boilers were in the top 3 on Google Maps for “boiler installation bradford” across 73.96% of a 3-mile map scan around their base in Guiseley.

We filled Direct Boilers’ Business Profile with every service they actually do and mapped every category on it to a page on their website, and that’s the evidence both the map and the AI answer are built from. Their full story is on our page on SEO for gas engineers.
Autograph Limousines, listed for party bus hire in Newcastle
When we checked Google’s AI Mode for “party bus hire newcastle”, it listed Autograph Limousines among the top-rated party bus suppliers, rated 4.9 from 55 reviews, and Autograph’s own party bus page was one of the nine sites the answer drew on.

Behind that answer are the listings we built. By the middle of February 2026 Autograph was listed on its first 30 directories, including Apple Maps and Bing, and by the middle of March on around 150. On 10 April 2026 it was in the top 3 across 44.97% of the map for “party bus hire in newcastle”. Their full story is on our page on SEO for chauffeur companies, and we’ve written up all three AI answers in our post on Google’s AI Overviews.
Why AI tools name some local businesses and not others
Every AI answer is written fresh, at the moment the question is asked. For a local search the tool goes out to the web there and then, reads the sources it trusts and builds its shortlist from what they say: your Google Business Profile and its reviews, directories, review sites, comparison sites and “best of” lists, and the listings that carry your name, address and phone number, which are your citations. Each tool reads a slightly different set of sources, but the sets overlap, so a business that’s listed well on one source tends to turn up across several tools.
Google’s own AI builds its answer from the same signals that decide who sits in the top three on the map: a complete Business Profile in the right categories, a steady flow of real reviews, the same details everywhere it looks, and a business that already ranks where people are searching. That’s why the three businesses above were named: the AI read the same evidence that put each of them in the top 3 on Google’s map.
So the work happens on the sources the AI reads, not inside the AI itself, and getting your business onto those sources, with the same details on every one, is the job.
How to get your business recommended by ChatGPT
The same four steps work for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s own AI, and we run them in this order.
Google first. Your Business Profile, your website and your citations, the same foundation every client of ours gets, built and live in 7 days. The AI tools read the same evidence as Google’s map, so this part always comes first.
The core listings. Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Foursquare and Yelp, the four listings every business needs before any other directory, with your details matching your Business Profile to the letter.
The sources the AI reads for your search. We search your main job in your town and get your business onto the directories, review sites and lists that come up, because those are the pages the AI tools read when your customers ask the same question.
We ask the AI itself. We put your customers’ real questions to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s AI Mode in fresh chats, then ask each one which websites it read to answer and what your business would need for it to recommend you. Google never shows anyone its ranking formula, but an AI will list the websites it used when you ask it, and its answers become our work list.
How we measure AI visibility
We measure AI visibility as share of mentions, because every AI answer is generated fresh and the same question asked twice can bring back a different shortlist. We ask each tool the same questions three times, in fresh chats, count how many of those answers name your business and report that share to you tool by tool. That share is the number we work to raise.
AI visibility sits on top of your Google ranking
Your customers search Google far more than they ask an AI, so the AI work always sits on top of the Google build, never in place of it. Every listing we build for the AI also backs up your Google ranking, and every AI answer reads the same evidence the map does, so the two are built together, with Google first.
It’s built for UK businesses already making money from ads, where three to five extra jobs a month from Google would be worth more than £10,000. More of our clients’ map scans are on our results page.
See where you rank on Google first
AI visibility starts from where you rank on Google, so the free scan starts there too. It runs your main job across the map around your business, then checks your Business Profile and your website, and in 30 to 60 minutes it sends back your ranking, the top three things holding you back and a quote for the build, which you pay once.
The build is what puts you on Google’s map, and it comes with our promise:
Top 3 on Google in 90 days. Or £500 back.
