One boiler installer’s map, first scan and latest
Direct Boilers and Heating install boilers across Bradford, Leeds and West Yorkshire, and the search they wanted to show up for was “boiler installation bradford”. Below is the first scan we ran on them next to the latest one. The two maps aren’t the same size and aren’t centred in the same place, so treat them as two separate pictures rather than one measured change.
First scan, 18 Dec 2025. A 13x13 grid covering 371.96 km² across Bradford and Leeds. Average rank 19.50, in the top 3 across 0% of the map, and 45th of the businesses in the scan.
Latest scan, 17 Sep 2026. A 13x13 grid with a 3.0 mile radius covering 36.00 mi², centred on their base in Guiseley, north of Bradford. Average rank 2.84, in the top 3 across 73.96% of the map.

It’s held there since July
Every scan since the end of July has used the same keyword, the same 3-mile grid and the same centre point, so these six can be compared with each other.

That’s a business holding its ground rather than still climbing. The latest report counts 76 businesses competing on that grid, and only 14 of them make the top 3 anywhere on it.
Rankings don’t pay for the van on their own, so here’s the other number. Google’s chart for their Business Profile shows 25 calls made from the profile between December 2025 and April 2026.

Calls from the Business Profile, December 2025 to April 2026.
What hasn’t moved
Along the bottom three rows of the latest map, around Baildon, Shipley and Idle on the Bradford side, they’re 4th at best and past 20th at worst. The 3-mile grid doesn’t reach Bradford city centre at all, so we’re not claiming the city centre for them. We’ve also only got the one scan of “gas engineer bradford”, from 18 December 2025, so we’re not claiming that search either.
Other clients’ results are on the results page, and the longer write-ups are on the blog.
Google treats “boiler installation” and “gas engineer” as different searches
On 18 December 2025 we ran two scans over exactly the same map of Bradford and Leeds, one for “boiler installation bradford” and one for “gas engineer bradford”.
Direct Boilers’ average rank was 19.50 on the first, 45th of the businesses in that scan, and 19.93 on the second, 76th of the businesses in that one. The firm leading “gas engineer bradford” that day was in the top 3 across 68.64% of the map. For “boiler installation bradford”, on the same map and the same day, it was in the top 3 across 1.78% of it.
So someone typing “gas engineer” and someone typing “boiler installation” from the same spot get shown different firms. If you want both kinds of call, your profile and your website have to say both in plain words, along with every other job you want the phone to ring for, whether that’s repairs, servicing or gas safety certificates.
The categories a heating firm gets filed under
Google asks every business to pick one main category and lets it add more, and its own help pages say “The categories that you select affect your local ranking on Google.” A heating firm has several that fit, and Google puts them up against each other. When we searched “boiler installation guiseley”, the three businesses it listed were filed as a Plumber, a Gas engineer and a Boiler supplier. In that first Bradford scan, the businesses competing for “boiler installation bradford” included gas engineers, a heating contractor, a firm filed simply as a contractor, and a Do-it-yourself shop.
The main category is a decision about which jobs you want most, and the rest go on as additional categories, each one backed up by a page on your website. When we audited Direct Boilers’ profile in April 2026 it had six categories, and we mapped every one of them to a page on their website.
We start with the profile, because with Direct Boilers it’s what moved the map first. The weekend after the first scan, we filled their Business Profile with every service they actually do, and touched nothing else. By 21 December 2025, three days after the first scan and on the same map, they’d gone from 45th of the businesses in the scan to 8th, with an average rank of 11.80, and were in the top 3 across 5.92% of it.
What Google’s AI tells your customers to look for
When we asked Google “who’s the best boiler installers in bradford?”, its AI Overview listed four firms, Direct Boilers & Heating among them. Underneath, it gave the searcher one piece of advice on choosing: “Look for Gas Safe registered engineers accredited by brands like Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, or Navien.” For two of the other firms, the detail it picked out was which boiler brands they’re accredited with.

Direct Boilers’ entry in Google’s AI Overview for “who’s the best boiler installers in bradford?”, as it appeared when we checked, cropped to Direct Boilers.
That points at the one listing every gas business has to have. To do gas work legally, a business has to be on the Gas Safe Register, and the register’s Find an Engineer search lets anyone look up a registered engineer by postcode. So if you’re Gas Safe registered and accredited with a boiler brand, put both on your website and your Business Profile in plain words, and make sure the business details the register holds for you match your Google profile.
And when we searched “boiler installation guiseley”, Google put Checkatrade, Yell and TrustATrader in a box above the map. A listing there is in front of the customer before your own profile is, so it needs to say exactly what your profile says.
What the 7-day build covers for a heating firm
We do the whole foundation for you, and it’s live in 7 days:
Your Google Business Profile: the main and additional categories set for the heating jobs you want, every service you really do listed, and photos of your own installs.
Citations: your name, address and number listed the same way on the main directories, trade directories included.
On-page and technical fixes on your website, so each page names the job it covers and the area you cover.
Schema, a short piece of code on your site that spells out your business, your jobs and your area to Google.
What the build won’t do is put you at the top straight away. It’s done in 7 days, and the map takes longer than that to move.
It’s for heating firms whose ads already pay, where three to five more boiler installs a month would be worth over £10,000.
If your ads aren’t paying yet, fix those first: Nivoro Marketing, the company behind Rank on Google, runs Facebook and Instagram ads.
See where you rank for your main job
The free scan checks the map around your business for your main job, then goes through your Business Profile and your website. In 30 to 60 minutes you’ll have your ranking, a quote, and the three biggest things holding you back. The quote is for the whole build, which you pay for once, and after that it’s £99 a month for weekly management and reporting.
We’ll be straight with you: the scan is free because it’s how we quote, and you keep the results whether you go ahead or not.
